This is the page for preparation of the kick-off meeting on Friday September 14th 2018. New information will be added as soon as it is produced

Abstract

The goal of this OGC Interoperability Experiment (IE) is to demonstrate the interoperability within Citizen Science (CS) projects and the way OGC standards can be applied to Citizen Science. This IE specifically addresses the following topics:
  • The use of OGC standards or (e.g. Sensor Web Enablement (SWE)) to support data integration among CS projects, and with other sources, esp. authoritative data (e.g by following SWE4CS);
  • How to document critical metadata, including data quality aspects, and generate a data quality label.
  • The integration of CS projects/campaigns in Single Sign-On system (SSO) federation;
  • The relationship(s) between OGC standards and data and metadata standards currently used by CS projects.

In the kickoff meeting we will confirm the list of topic, will defined the goals and the components and the people that will participate on them. We will form groups and we will define the tasks and scenarions and the schedule to do them. We will also defined the practical outcomes in terms of ER and demonstrations.

This IE is promoted by the OGC Citizen Science Domain Working Group, the WeObserve and NextGEOSS H2020 projects, and The Earth Challenge 2020 . project as supported by National Geographic Society. This IE contributes not only to the interoperability and possibly standardization program of the OGC, but also to the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). This work is also relevant to the foundational objectives of the Citizen Science Global Partnership (CSGP). Regional and national Citizen Science Associations will equally benefit from the results of this OGC IE. Citizen Science is transdisciplinary and heterogeneous by nature, and current standardization efforts already occur in the OGC (e.g. addressing data model and sharing issues) as well as outside the OGC (primarily addressing project descriptions and data set metadata). Citizen Science projects might benefit from concrete examples and best practices required to achieve the full benefits of interoperability. OGC is in the ideal position to develop and provide such best practice guidance to the international community. Even if this IE focuses on one or more targeted scenarios, developed solutions should be applicable to most Citizen Science projects. Findings from this IE will be generalized in this manner and might set the basis for additional experimentation in the future.

Who are expected to come

We already had a preparatory meeting in the ECSA conference in Geneva. We expect that the same people come to this one but other people from OGC can also come. In particular we expect some new participants in support of the Earth Challenge 2020 initiative.

Registration

There is no official registration to the event. You only need to come!. Nevertheless, please ensure you are in the following email list: interop-cop3(at)weobserve.eu. If not, go to the WebHome page to read about the procedure.

    • Anticipate the practical outcomes in terms of ER and demonstrations.
  • Define a time line (when)
  • Define a strategy to achieve the goals in terms of tasks and phases (how)
    • Discuss the way we will work as a team.

Presentations are in the OGC portal (requires a OGC username): https://portal.opengeospatial.org/index.php?m=projects&a=view&project_id=580&tab=2&artifact_id=81125 A recording in publicly available here: https://portal.opengeospatial.org/files/?artifact_id=81140

Relation with the two meeting in the OGC TC agenda.

There will be 2 meetings the day before:
  • CitSci.DWG 8:00-9:00
