Work item: QoS metrics, indicators and capabilities extensions for OGC Web Services

The purpose of this work item to draft a mechanism for expressing declared QoS parameters of Web Services implementing OGC Standards and define a small set of key metrics and indicators for evaluating the Quality of Service of a Spatial Data Service. Aim is to work in close co-operation or partly under the OGC Testbed 13 to evaluate the feasibility on the proposed technical implementations.

Key objectives

  • Define an initial set of key QoS metrics for OGC Web Services. Publish the defined QoS metrics as a URL-referenceable register controlled by the QoSE DWG.
  • Create a common conceptual model for declared QoS service metadata and draft implementations of it as extended capabilities for WMS 1.3.0, CAT 2.0.2 & 3.0 HTTP Protocol Binding (CSW) and WFS 2.0.0.
  • Test the WMS, CSW and WFS QoS extended capabilities in pilot and/or testbed projects and collect implementation feedback from software developers, service users and the relevant OGC SWGs.
