The European Group On meteorological WorkStations (EGOWS) 2009 took place in KNMI in De Bilt, Netherlands from June 8th to June 11th gathering 43 participants from 19 Weather institutes or companies (Australian Bureau Of Meteorology, ZAMG Austria, National Meteorological Center China, DHMZ Croatia, DMI Denmark, FMI Finland, Meteo-France, DWD Germany, Eumetsat, Institute for Geo-Informatics, Italian Air Force Met Service, Jersey Met, Norwegian Meteorological Institute met.no Norway, IBL Software Engineering Slovakia, Institute Environmental Agency of the Republic of Slovenia, AEMET Spain, KNMI The Netherlands, Military Meteorological Service (DMG) The Netherlands, ECMWF, Met Office UK).

This group concluded that the first priority was to work on WMS best guidances to reach interoperability. This requires to clarify a Controlled vocabulary, how to define the projections used in meteorology (stereo polar centered on any meridian for instance), how to handle multi dimensional time. This should be useful for other standards as WCS for example. A questionnaire should help define experiments. The second priority seemed to be conceptual modeling and GML. Other standards can be important as well : It was agreed to closely monitor the work outside this group that could impact the MetDWG work.
